Ode to a RFBR schmidt....sept it don't rhyme....

Ode to a RFBR schmidt....sept it don't rhyme....

CYA friends:

An ode to a RFBR schmidt..........kinda......

I got a new ulapped blank.....from a barrel maker....a good barrel maker....a really good barrel maker...

Marked on the unlapped blank were instructions from the barrel maker, NOT to use the last 2 inches of the blank...

But I wanted 27 inches.......the blank was only 29 inches long....

_________________________

So I went to lapping, and I lapped and I lapped......

Then checked my progress.....I could only get about 25 inches..........I want 27, dang it!

____________________________

So, I lapped some more, and turned a special little lapping trick, and man, after slugging this blank, I could get 27 inches....

BUT.........BUT.....I had to use an inch and a half of the muzzle, that the barrel maker told me not to........

___________________________

Well, I fit and chambered it, did a post chamber lap, and shot it.........

It is an absolute killer...............................I know better than to brag on a rimfire........but it is a killer, anyway.

__________________________

But, now I'm wondering..............if this thing is a killer with me using that 1 1/2 inches I wasn't supposed to, how would it shoot if I had not used that place?

"But Billy, it is a killer.......man......"

"Yea, I know, I know........but.......I've got to try to sleep tonight......"

_____________________

"Billy, no, you did not cut that 1 1/2" off and re-crown it, did you......surly not.....I mean, it is a killer.....you would not take the chance on ruining that killer by doing that...........would you Billy?"

__________________________

"Well, all I've got to say is this; I'm headed to the range to see if I ruined it, or not........"

Calling Big Dog and Duck Hawk:

I don't care how bad killer it shot........which it did......I just have to know.........

Now, about an hour from now, if you hear someone screaming........I bettered it........

Or, tomorrow morning, if you read the papers where they found an old, black Ford truck parked on the Clark Memorial Bridge, in Louisville, with no one in it................well...........

Off to the range......................

CYA friends, I'm wore out.....

I've got a classic I'm reading.....so I'm going to bed, read some, then go to sleep, till I have to get up to pee-pee....

I shot a while ago........

Here is a little move I took....

CYA friends, my LORD, if I could get some action maker to help........................................so we could advance rimfire accuracy...

Flash, we need you.............................................my gosh...

Your wore out friend, BC

The little movie........

12,050............

12,050............

CYA friends:

I can remember anticipating the first ever 2500 ARA card................

But I knew, back then, it would simply be a matter of time before it happened....

Then one day at Simpson County, KY, Mike Mullins set the all time ARA record with his 2500.....( I have that target, framed by ARA)

______________________________

But, there was a difference between then and now....

We still had accuracy advancement on a pretty steep, upward course back then.....

We don't have that today......

Accuracy advancement now comes by the thousandths.......

This is why we desperately need a properly built, PAS triple for the masses....

__________________________________

Now, we have two, very unique goals as a way for measuring rimfire accuracy advancement:

The first goal, is for someone to turn another 12,000 PSL score....

The second goal, is to break Chuck "Raging Inferno" Morrell's 12,050 PSL record.

_________________________________

I now have two. 24 plus inch. Dan Muller 8 grooves fit to my project, PAS triple.....

Am I still enthused about a 27 inch, 8?

Of course......

_________________________________

Now, do I believe for a second that either, or both, of my Muller 8's has the accuracy potential to break the Inferno's 12,050?

They're both stout.......but no..........I don't believe either one of these two barrels will ever break the inferno's record...

________________________________

I've worked off of my gut all my RFBR schmidt life.......

It took a 27 1/4 inch barrel to set the 12,050 PSL record....

And it's going to take a 27 inch barrel to break it......for this reason:

The longer the barrel, within reason, the greater role the barrel, itself, plays in the uniformity of accuracy......the less the ammo plays...

Don't misunderstand, the ammo must be killer........

But even the very best ammo we have today, if left to it's own vices, ie., in a 20 inch barrel, for example, is not uniform enough in consistency to turn the kind of numbers it will take to turn another 12,000 PSL, let alone break the record....

And that uniform consistency increases as barrel length increases, up to a point.....

In other words, the role the barrel plays, as a percent of consistency, verses the role the ammo plays, increases as barrel length increases...

_________________________

What is the maximum length where the barrel's percent of consistency stops increasing?

I do not know.

All I do know, believe, is that we will need at least the percent of consistency that a 27 in barrel may be capable of producing if another 12,000 PSL score is ever turned, let alone break the Inferno's 12,050 record.......

Your friend, Bill Calfee

Don't ever brag on a rimfire...

CYA friends:

Don't ever brag on a rimfire, cause they'll let you down, almost ever time......( sometimes they won't)

Friend 404tbang corresponded with me a couple of days ago, suggesting I should post a still picture of the target I shot in my movie..

Here's the still picture of the card....

CYA friends, this is what we can do if we can somehow wake up our RFBR action makers.......which is probably impossible...

PS......this ain't a bad card.......

Also, I'd like for you to notice something about this card.....

There are 6 foulers in the upper right sighter......

Three in the hole at the top, and three in the hole at 6:00........the difference is, that I clicked the scope down one click for the bottom three foulers.....

Yes, there are three in that bottom hole....

I then ran the complete card, cleaned the gun and came home....bc

PS again:

CYA friends, I just blew up the picture of those six sighters....

Yes, there are three in each hole....look at those bottom three.......

Man, if we could only get one of our RFBR action makers to...............bc

Look at the bottom three sighters and the first record shot....

All four are in exactly the same location, about 7:30, cutting the dot....

After that first record round, I made a slight hold adjustment for the other 24 rounds....

Man we need another Flash Ebert to come along........

Your friend, BC

PS: Yes, there are 6 rounds in the sighter....three in the top hole, with a half bullet of horizontal, and three in the bottom hole..

CYA friends, look very closely at the three lower sighters, in one hole, and the first record round.....

I swear, I believe the hole with the three sighters in it looks smaller than the single bullet hole in the first record bull....

By the way, that first record bull does plug......

That is double bad, rimfire accuracy......bc
